Type A Buses

The Type A, Multi-Function School Activity Bus (MFSAB) vehicles are an excellent choice for schools, childcare and activity centers, service organizations, churches and youth groups. With seating for up to 30 passengers, Thomas' Type A buses meet all Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards for school buses.

Thomas's Minotour® Type A bus is a highly compact and maneuverable vehicle, with all the safety features and rugged engineering of our bigger buses. The Minotour is available in 2 models and seats up to 30 passengers.

Our newest Type A bus, MyBus™, was built with the same safety features and rugged engineering as our Minotour but places added focus on the childcare, church and service organization customers needs with fewer options for a simplified purchase process. It’s available in three models, with seating for up to 30 passengers.

The Minotour® may be the smallest bus we make, but don't be fooled by its size. Into this highly compact and maneuverable vehicle, we've packed all the safety features and rugged engineering of our bigger buses. And, unlike most passenger vans, the Minotour meets-and exceeds-all Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards for school buses. For a small bus, the Minotour is loaded with features, such as:

  • Steel cage body with one-piece skirt-to-skirt roof bows.
  • 16-gauge aluminum side panels and a 12-gauge steel wrap-around bumper.
  • Comfortable, adjustable driver's seat and easy-to-read instrument panels.
  • Full-height outward opening entrance door with padded door header.
  • Comfortable, spacious seating for up to 30 passengers.
  • Wide center aisle with easy access to emergency exit.
  • Optional wheelchair lift for special needs applications.

Optional diesel engine chassis for longer lifespan and better fuel economy.

Type C Buses

Since the first bus rolled off the Thomas assembly line in 1936, we've operated with one simple philosophy: build the kind of bus that we'd want our own children to ride in. That simple idea drives the way we do business-from the way we engineer our buses to be stronger and better than the standard, to the way we train our customers to keep their buses running smoothly throughout their lifespan.

Today, Thomas Built Buses is North America's leading bus manufacturer, offering a full line of school, commercial and specialty buses. One in every three children in America who rides a bus to school or an activity, rides a Thomas.

Type C conventional buses are the mainstay of school districts throughout the country. For years, Thomas' Conventional FS-65 has been a proven performer. Now, the FS-65 design has been retired and the new Saf-T-Liner® C2 is revolutionizing the industry. After years of market research, design, testing and fabrication, the Thomas Saf-T-Liner® C2 is a reality. The Saf-T-Liner® C2 is the result of Thomas' quest to create a new conventional style bus that would redefine the Type C category. Launched in the fall of 2004, every element of the C2 was designed and engineered to improve durability, reliability, safety and lifecycle cost. The C2 is so innovative that we built a $40 million state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in High Point, N.C. to produce it.

HDX Bus

The Saf-T-Liner® HDX bus features a rear-engine design that is the mainstay of transit-style bus fleets. It has a capacity of 66-90 passengers. The engine is located in the back for ideal weight distribution whether empty and loaded. This also creates a quiet and comfortable ride, with an oversized windshield giving the driver great visibility. Able to tackle mountain roads and city streets in style, this bus features a thermostatically controlled hydraulic cooling system, larger brakes, a steel drop frame, optional air suspension and optional transmission retarders for improved braking. There's even generous optional underbody storage for student activities and trips.
